Vibrating knickers or panty vibrator?
Although a subtle difference in name, these are two distinct type of toys.
Vibrating knickers, or panties are, as you would expect, a pair of knickers or underwear that are specifically designed to incorporate the vibrator that comes included with them, usually using a pocket that the vibe slips into.
Panty vibrators (often just called ‘panty vibes’) do the same job, but are are designed to work with whatever underwear you fancy. Most use a magnet which sits on the outer of your panties to hold the the vibrator in place. It’s more sexy than it sounds. Honest. Trust us on this one!

Vibrating knickers controls
There’s a lot of variation when it comes to how vibrating underwear are controlled. They range from on-device controls (just like a standard vibrator), wired remote, wireless remote, all the way through to dedicated phone apps. Some, even have multiple control options, like We-Vibe toys, which often have the option to either use it’s own remote, or the We-Connect app.

If you’re going to delve into the exciting world of vibrating panties, it’s worth going for the no-strings-attached option – which means remote control vibrating panties!
And of course, some of the naughtiest fun you can have with vibrating panties is when someone else is in control. But that tends to be a bit limited when your remote is attached to a cord, so wireless is definitely the way to go if you want to try handing over the controls.

Phone App control
So a remote control for your vibrating panties is great, and some of the better ones have a range of up to 15 metres. But what if you could let someone control your vibrations from ANYWHERE?
Well phone app controlled vibrating panties let you do just that! (assuming you have mobile signal of course).
If you’re in the same place as the person controlling your device (or you’re controlling your own vibrations), then you can usually use a bluetooth connection up to around 10 metres. For long distance control, you’ll need to connect via the internet.

On-device or wired control
Some of the more basic models of vibrating underwear are controlled on the vibrator itself, or using a corded remote. This is fine if you’re looking for a toy for the bedroom (or any other room for that matter), but has it’s limitations. If you’re planning on wearing your sexy new buzzing underwear out and about, it might not be ideal having to rummage in your pants to switch the vibrations on and off!
However, the advantage of knickers with these type of controls are their price. If you’re looking for a budget option without all the fancy stuff, they could be worth a look.
Functions
This might seem like an odd one to cover – surely the function of vibrating panties is to… erm… vibrate? Well yes and no.
Some, like Bondara’s Hot Pink Vibrating Bullet G-String, keep things simple with your vibrations either on or off, with a single speed bullet vibrator.
But it’s more common for devices to give you a bit more control of your vibrations.
The next step up from basic on/off controls is multi functions. You’ll get a number of ‘functions’ (10 function devices are the norm), with each one giving slightly more powerful than the last.
Some higher-end devices take this a step further, letting you control speed/intensity and vibration patterns separately.
But it’s with app controlled devices that things get really interesting. Some, like the We-Vibe range (one of our favourites) give you full control of patterns and intensity via their app, giving endless combinations. You can even sync vibrations to your favourite music or other audio.
Discretion
If you’re planning on wearing your new buzzing pants out in public, then you’re going to want to make sure they’re discrete (even if a big grin gives the game away).
Most designs are pretty easy to conceal under your clothes. So unless you’re planning on wearing lycra hotpants, that’s not something you should need to worry about too much.
However, there does tend to be a bit more variation when it comes to volume. So if you don’t want it to sound like you’ve got your electric toothbrush in your pocket, it’s worth doing a little research to make sure that the only giveaways to what’s going on in your pants, come from your reactions.
Rest assured though, a lot of the vibrating panties on offer are now virtually silent. If you want to be sure, just have a check of the user reviews before you buy. You can be pretty sure that any of the vibrating underwear with good reviews are going to be quiet, as it tends to be a high priority for most people.
One common issue which does seem to contribute to louder vibrations is knickers that aren’t a good fit – or rather the vibrator within them doesn’t sit as snugly as it should. Firstly, this can mean slightly more noise as the vibrations aren’t being absorbed by… well… you I suppose. But secondly, if you’re not getting the full benefit of the vibrations, there’s a tendency to ramp up the power to get the pleasure you’re looking for – thus resulting in a increased noise with some devices.
In short, make sure you get a good fit!
Vibrating knickers styles
You might not have quite the same degree of choice as when you’re shopping for standard underwear or lingerie, but there’s still a good selection of vibrating panty styles to suit most tastes.

That said, the styles on offer won’t be to everyone’s taste. So if you can’t find a style that works for you, then why not opt for a panty vibe instead and pair it with whichever knickers take your fancy.
Size & Fit
As with the availability of different styles, vibrating underwear sizing options are always going to be limited compared with regular knickers.
It is important that you do get a good fit, and not purely just for comfort reasons! One of the occasional complaints we’ve come across is when vibrating panties aren’t quite tight enough and the vibrations don’t quite hit ‘the spot’.
Some brands have taken a ‘one size fits most’ approach to sizing, typically using a combination of stretchy materials and/or ribbon ties which can be adjusted.
A few, such as Bondara’s own range, do provide a range of size options. They offer variations of their rather sexy looking lace style vibrating panties in 3 different fits, which cover sizes from Small (UK size 6, 24″ waist, 34″ hip) to 3XL (UK size 20, 40″ waist, 50″ hip).

If you’re in doubt, it could be worth opting for a panty vibrator that you can wear with underwear, rather than relying on the sizing of integral vibrating panties.
Of course panty vibrators are also a safer option if you’re buying as a surprise gift too, and don’t want to start asking awkward size questions. Alternatively, opt for a ‘one size fits most’ number, like the ‘Hot Pink Vibrating Bullet G-String‘.
Battery power or rechargeable?
It’s not exactly the most fun consideration, but the last thing you want is that dreaded feeling of fading battery power right before climax. And as unsexy as budgeting is, none of us want to go bankrupt keeping a pair of battery hungry panties topped up with juice!
Generally speaking, lower priced vibrating knickers tend to require batteries, whereas if you pay a bit more, most of the devices are rechargeable.
If you’re planning on getting lots of use out of your panties (as I’d hope you are), then it’s worth investing a little more upfront to save on batteries in the longer term.
If you do opt for a battery powered pair, you might want to pop a couple of spare batteries in your basket too. Although most of the batteries are pretty common to adult toys and other such devices, they’re not always readily available at your local corner shop when you need them most!
Waterproof?
This is another feature that wasn’t on our radar until we started doing some digging. I mean, why would you need vibrating panties to be waterproof?
Obviously it goes without saying that the knickers themselves need to be able to be popped in the washing, but most just let you remove the vibrator element, so that’s not an issue.
So why else would the rest need to be waterproof? All jokes about ‘getting wet’ aside, we uncovered some very good reasons…
Reason number one: sexy fun in the hot tub! How didn’t we think of this? Bubbles and vibrations for the win! Grab a glass of champers, pass your remote to a signifigant other (or manservant, we won’t judge), lay back, and enjoy!
Admittedly, reasons two to ten follow much the same theme: fun in the bath, fun in the swimming pool, fun in the jacuzzi, fun in the paddling pool, etc etc. You get the idea. The point I’m trying to make is that ‘waterproof’ opens up a whole load of scenarios!
Vibration speed and power
If you were buying a standard vibrator, you’d want to make sure it had the power to ‘do its job’. Vibrating panties shouldn’t be any different. Buzzing in your pants is all well and good, but if it hasn’t got the power to get you off, you’re going to get a bit frustrated.
