Dildos are on the up! A recent spike in Google Trends data suggests that dildos could be making a comeback, following a decline in interest in recent years.
Over the past few years, interest in dildos has shown a gradual but steady decline, whilst the sex toy of choice seems to be the vibrator which has picked up the slack.
What’s behind the recent spike in dildo searches?
Well after some painstaking investigation (5 minutes on Google) – I discovered that the driver behind this dildo upsurge, is a lady named Yvette Amos.
I must have been hibernating or something when it happened, because the media went crazy with this ‘dildo on BBC Wales’ story around the world.
In short – BBC Wales Today was running a news story on unemployment during the pandemic, and as part of the segment, interviewed a guest named Yvette Amos about her experience.
During the interview, you can clearly see a dildo sitting on her bookshelf in the background.
Obviously this was enough to send the nation (and beyond) into a writhing mess of shock, outrage and giggles. We really are an easily amused bunch aren’t we!
There’s not really that much more to the story. Obviously the media milked it for all it’s worth. You can have a look at one such story in the Independent here. But they all pretty much just keep repeating the same thing “dildo, on bookshelf, on BBC”.
But at RemoteFun, we don’t stop until we get the REAL story!
(Or until we get bored, whichever comes first).
What kind of dildo is it?
This is the ‘real’ question we’ve all been wanting to know the answer to!
After analysing the video, using really complex equations to calculate dimensions and shape, and carrying out extensive research we’ve identified the dildo!
We believe it to be the ‘Basics Extra Girthy Realistic 7 Inch Dildo’ from Lovehoney:
Obviously without confirmation from Yvette, we have no way of knowing for sure. But I think you’ll agree, based on my highly scientific dildo GIF comparison technique, the similarity is uncanny!
Good choice, Yvette. Good choice.
We salute you, Yvette!
Now we’re not sure how Yvette feels about her new-found fame. We’re not even really sure if it was a genuine accident, a deliberate showing off of a favourite toy, or the beginning of the great dildo uprising.
Either way, we salute you Yvette Amos! Everyone should always have a reliable sex toy and good book close at hand.
We do hope that you’ve got more than just 15minutes though. Some freebies or sponsorship from one of the big sex-toy brands would seem fitting. If you didn’t, then you bloody well should have! Get in touch and I’ll send you something myself! There’s still loads of room on that bookshelf. Do you know Yvette? Tell her to get in touch!
But were dildos ever on the back foot?
Now here at RemoteFun, adult toys are our gig. We like to think that we know a thing or two about them. But frankly, we’re often completely wrong. This is one of those times.
When writing this, I made the sweeping assumption that vibrators were the sex toy of choice these days. I mean, who doesn’t want some buzzin’ in their favorite toy?
But as you can see below, I was wrong…
Although dildos have been on the decline, and vibrators on the rise, searches for dildos are still over double that of vibrators, even before the recent spike!
We are seemingly a nation of traditionalists when it comes to our sex toys. Personally we prefer some vibes at playtime, but it’s always good to have a backup in case of a power shortage!
Wrong Dildo?
Then again, we could be barking up the wrong bush completely.
All of these people ‘may’ actually be looking for Dildo, the town in Newfoundland, Canada. Or even the popular Dildo Brewing Company!
I’m sure we’d all enjoy a tasty half of dildo.
Dildo or Vibrator?
So what’s your preference? Does the data lie? Or is the nation shirking new technology and sticking to the old faithful? Let us know what you think in the comments!
